All the years I've grown roses, I've somehow never noticed the rugosas at the nurseries! So when I saw one growing in front of a neighbor's home in our old neighborhood, with its super thorny canes, I was intrigued... Picking up this dwarf version, with quite the name - Frau Dagmar Hartopp (and nope, can't find anywhere online how it got this name!) - for our side yard has been a big hit - one of the first bloomers in this section and pretty as can be! With this rugosa shrub rose, you're supposed to avoid deadheading as the hips turn a beautiful red in the fall...so, talk about a low maintenance flower!
“I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.” ~ Emma Goldman
Love this rose, such a violent looking thing producing so much beauty
