Rose: “Sugar Moon"

Nothing like June to see the roses start to bloom. This year I particularly felt the sting of not being in my hometown during Rose Festival, thinking of my early childhood spent perusing roses with my dad at the gardens there, and following in his footsteps raising roses since renting my first house back in the early 90s in Seattle, not to mention the rose gardens across from my grandma's place at Peninsula Park in Portland where she used to volunteer (and where I did once I moved there), but I know I'll return someday. In the meantime, I designed a good-sized section of our garden path to be lined with ten different roses, some old favorites, and some new ones like this Sugar Moon variety, which comes with pointed blooms and a citrusy fragrance. Never giving white roses much thought in my earlier gardening years, a few years ago I planted my first one in our Emerald City cottage and it was a tough li'l gal, inspiring me to find a larger and even tougher variety here in the Valley. Bingo! I think I found it.
