Hot damn all my roses are in bloom - and a big exhale there since it's the last week of June!
This is the first time I've grown a big bright lemon-yellow rose like 'Radiant Perfume' and it's definitely been worth the wait, with oodles of buds on it and big citrusy scented blooms emerging like sunshine. While we've dealt with a lot of rust and blackspot this year, the ladybugs of the neighborhood have been helping a LOT with it along with (earlier in the season) neem oil, and this particular rose has come out looking especially healthy compared to the Double Delight (or our Zepherine climber which has yet to bloom, poor thing...). Ironic since the reviews warned of its vulnerabilities. Amen for little blessings like this eh?
Radiant Perfume has only been around a couple of decades, and while I was tempted during our visit to our favorite nursery down in Snohomish County to grab a tried-and-true like 'Henry Fonda', this one's brilliance won in the long run. And it's now got my honey and I thiknking about possibly adding "just a couple more" roses to the path leading to our back gate. Yep, he's been bitten by the rose bug now too...
“A rose dreams of enjoying the company of bees, but none appears. The sun asks: ‘Aren’t you tired of waiting?’ ‘Yes,’ answers the rose, ‘but if I close my petals, I will wither and die.’” ~ Paulo Coelho
