The red flowering currant is one of my favorite native plants here in the Pacific Northwest, as well as a favorite of the local hummingbirds and other pollinators. Thanks to the local conservation districts I've lived in (both urban and rural), native plant sales have offered the opportunity to plant a large number of my favorite natives at a miniscule price compared to retail nurseries. If you're not aware of these in your area, I strongly recommend doing an online search in your county - they make gardening so much more affordable...and fun!
