Paper Recycling: Beyond What You Can Imagine

This was taken over a decade ago when I was doing my Master Recycler certification and we got to take a field trip to a local paper recycling plant, but stumbling upon it again, I thought it was an important reminder of what the industry really looks like and the sheer amount of paper that we are sending to these human beings to process for us.

This isn't some magic automated process.

Folks are going through this stuff to make sure it's viable.

Millions are sending massive amounts of paper to recyclers - yet still buying products out of virgin wood fiber instead of 100% recycled, from toilet paper to printer paper to unnecessary packaging on anything and everything they buy, and much, much more. The GOP's anti-regulation stance supports the continued violation of the planet and its inhabitants, stuffing of their wallets by corporate millionaires and billionaires while pollution increases, tree canopies decrease, and our health and well being suffers exponentially.

Reduce your paper use - it's the first of the three R's. Don't buy things with unnecessary packaging (folks, soap does not need to come in a wrapper!). Buy 100% recycled paper items or nothing at all. Demand more from your retailers...and your elected officials. Vote in EVERY election, from local to federal, and vote for the people who are actively supporting change to improve both planetary and community health. Because we are all, ALL affected.

"Waste does not exist in nature because ecosystems reuse everything that grows in a never-ending cycle of efficiency and purpose." ~ Frans van Houten
