At our farmhouse, we were lucky enough to have a huge, highly underutilitized breakfast nook...which instantly screamed "pantry!" to me when I saw it. After painting it all white, including the shelves, I added wall shelving so that it would serve to store not only all of the fruits and veggies I'd preserved, pickled, dehydrated, etc., but also had the counter space for all the flours a baker could dream of. And since it was on the north side of the house? It stayed nice & cool in summer.
