As my fall/winter garden progresses with varying degrees of success (I lost all of our winter cauliflower I'd planted from seed to an obscene invasion of moths in early fall who decimated it all in short order, and they appear to have a serious plans on my first attempt at fall spinach as well, the muthafukkas....), the best looking crop so far is this heirloom lettuce known as Landis Winter Lettuce, whcih is described as a "Pennsylvania Dutch selection of the now-extinct late 1700s variety known as White Tennisball." Don't you just love veggie history?
Anyhow, it's a tasty butterball and said to be VERY winter hardy even after the first snow. We'll see if that's the case, as it thus far has proven to be a slow grower, but with this being my favorite form of lettuce? I can wait it out, y'all.
