Dog treats -what a friggin' scam!
We all can save a ton by giving our dogs healthy treats right out of our own produce bins and pantries. Overpackaged, overprocessed, overpriced, over-caloried junk from the stores is not only unnecessary, it's unhealthy and terrible for the planet.
Here's some favorites of ours to think about instead...
Watermelon
Peanut Butter
Frozen Peas
Carrots
Leftover Brown Rice
And no, you don't have to make those fancy recipes for treats that they have out there. The dog will wolf those down and never appreciate it, I swear. After all, as current and former farmers like us will agree, most dogs' favorite 'treat' are cleaning up the messes from backyard birds - like the surprises our ducks leave on our back patio without fail (the avian version of what some refer to as 'kitty roca').
Veggies are far healthier, brown rice is far more filling, and a snowball thrown directly at your Rottweiler who then swallows it without a hint of an ice cream headache? Free entertainment. PS - Today my dog ate an entire sad bell pepper that would have gone to the compost heap. Well, it's Vitamin C...
Oh and guess what - our ducks (especially Lucy) love watermelon too...
