Planted last fall along with a similar plant, I'd long given up on these growing until they finally made a last ditch appearance coming out of the ground this summer, and this week exploding into its first blooms. The crocosmia, which I've long loved, has been blooming in another variety for over a month now, but this extra-vibrant 'Vera Cruz' variety just finally showed me what I've been curious about for the past year...and proves it was worth the wait.
PS - Did you know the crocosmia (which pollinators adore, by the way) is related to the iris? Cool bit o' trivia...
