By far the easiest flower to grow, in my humble opinion, is the Calendula. Originally planted as a companion plant for my potatoes in my first garden in Portland, I quickly learned they were fantastic for long-blooming, fast-growing, happy-looking yellow and orange flowers to insert in just about any sunny space available in the garden! Furthermore, when you let them finish up and go to seed, they are SUPER easy to save up and pop in the soil in early Spring. No special treatment necessary. And better yet? While they're referred to as an annual, three of our Calendula plants from last year miraculousl not only bloomed until December...but also stayed green and started blooming again this spring - including this beauty!
This might be the year I start making calendula oil. Anyone out there done this? Lots of articles and blog posts for inspiration though, like this one...
